tbr

today found us at tiong bahru, popular indie (read: hipster) haunt, often instagrammed for its lovely cafes and rustic housing.

(bad tan courtesy of netball trainings)

our first stop was to 40 Hands (where G's dad finds the coffee rather decent) and had ourselves some java and a lemon ricotta cheesecake for lunch. the tanginess of the lemon coupled with the tartness of the ricotta (G explains it is italian cheese) was rather refreshing, and welcoming from the sweltering heat that we walked 15 minutes in.

I have no comment about the coffee, seeing that i'm no connoisseur, but I certainly amused G (hopefully) with the way I slurped foam from my cappuccino. though, I did like the fact that my hot coffee was served at a temperature comfortable to drink at. that was certainly thoughtful of the 40th hand. next up was BooksActually, just across the street, and is an absolute must-go for all visiting tbr, with less well-known (read: indie) books and magazines atop or beside each other, and a back room spilling with little (or not so little) vintage trinkets.

we didn't get to meet the cat, but we weren't exactly looking for it either. we did meet scotti the shih tzu a few shops down at Woods In The Books, which was also selling adorable shots of said dog on postcards for $2 apiece.

it wouldn't be an adventure without some exploring, nor would our tbr visit have counted without some alleyway appreciation.

headed for PS.Cafe petit next to get our ice-cream fix and some drawing done, the "alfresco" setting was lovely, with air-conditioning, christmas songs, and a glass ceiling that provided background pitter-patters while we worked our pencils.

G had the rum and raisin (fragrant rum taste/aroma with plump rum-soaked raisins), while I picked the apple pie crunch (cinammony with little chunks of cooked apple and some pie skin bits).

last up was tiong bahru bakery, a min's walk away and direction pointed in by the friendly PS.cafe server, for our second coffee dose (regretting now at 4.30 am) and a jasmine scone for me. the scone was warmed up, but got cold after a toilet trip and a run for utensils and water, so that was a waste of electricity. i got tired of the scone halfway through, ended up drowning forkfuls of scone in my mocha. should've split another cake with G. o well.

well, that was a rather fruitful day out, and (to me, at least) #candrielle adventures are always fun. so is dressing up for the day, and taking pictures, and eating , and talking, and huddling under a not-so-big 'brella. so is being slightly taller than G, if only for a few hours.
