diy: drippy phone cover

if you follow me (candi) (@candayye) on instagram, you would've known i just painted some phone covers 2am one saturday night (because i felt like it). I originally wanted to emulate the marble print, which is very popular right now, butttttt i just went with the flow so i'm not sure if you can still call this a marble print? probably a different kind of marble yes?

materials i used:
black and white acrylic paint
(cheap) phone covers
paint palette
broad brush and pointed brush
decoupage medium

since my covers were originally printed on, i painted on a white base first with the broad brush, it doesn't have to be perfectly uniform, but that's up to your preference (:

1. dilute the black paint with water and brush on the "grey" in irregular shapes, with the ends streaked out
2. you can load the brush with more water so that the grey is a lighter shade, and you can let it drip (make use of gravity my friends)

3. using the point of the brush, dab on undiluted black onto the grey
4. since the grey paint underneath is still rather wet, the black will start to streak out. hold the cover at an angle for the paint to streak into interesting patterns

5. you can also introduce drips within the shapes (drip drip drip)
6. this was a total yolo moment when i let a huge drop of water streak right to the bottom, i thought it added a lot of interesting elements to the mix, so i threw in more paint droplets

7. on the right you can see the first cover that i painted, which would resemble the marble print more, but i felt it was rather plain compared to the one on the left, so i just let it go and introduced more paint drips
8. and here you have 2 covers which look more similar, after the one on the right went through the extra treatment.

apply a layer of decoupage to seal it and you're done!

urban outfitters haul

so about 2 weeks ago gabi furiously texted us about the urban outfitters spring mix sale, with shoes going at 25% off and there was free shipping. and well OF COURSE we couldn't resist this amazing deal because we all adored uo but will back off at the sight of hefty shipping fees. we shared shipping costs the last time (it was an amazing sale with additional 50% off sale items, *sigh* good times good times) and you'll have to run us over multiple times with a lorry to make us pass up free uo shipping, though we did miss out on the 25% discount on shoes ): but nevertheless, our love for shopping (and great deals) transcends mere obstacles like this and we all managed to find something in the end *v*

remember that all-white outfit i was so excited about????? i fell in love with the Love Sadie Embroidered Gauze Pant the moment i landed my eyes upon them. and since some of my other items couldn't be shipped to singapore and i really was trying to limit my spending, i guess it was meant to be for me to get it. gabi gave a "yay" for it, so into the cart it goes!

and if i can go all-black for an outfit, i sure as hell can go all-white too

(please excuse ugly nails)
i simply cannot get enough of sunnies and this pair of Winged Catmaster Sunglasses has a fierce, strong brow accent that i absolutely could not resist. and they look oh so debonair, almost reminiscent of snooty little ladies of the 1970s with their little leather handbags

i really am absolutely in love with this pair of pants, and bonus points for being oh-s0-comfortable, i believe i'll be wearing/keeping them for a really long time, perhaps hand them down to my future daughter, i'm sure vintage fashion will be in trend at some point of her adolescence.

also, gabi and i are waaaaaiting for another package (this time from asos) and we absolutely can't wait to get our items and share with you guys. and yes, we're a tad addicted to online shopping, just a little.

(tomorrow is good food friday!!!!)

This UO Striped iPhone 5/5s Case is another addition to my already large iphone case collection. I just couldn't resist the black and white geometric print. UO cases aren't the best of quality, but I guess they make up for it by having such a wide variety of prints to choose from.

I guess that it is obvious that this Amethyst Crystal Soap was a bit of an impulse buy, but I guess I was attracted to the fact that it is lavender scented and that it really does look like a amethyst crystal. Not sure when I'll actually use it for it's actual purpose, but for now it'll do as a pretty shelf adornment.

This Ecote painter smock jacket was definitely my star buy. I had been looking for a kimono for the longest time, but the ones in the shops just weren't fitting the bill. The only decent looking ones were extortionately priced and the rest were really bright floral prints (ugh, blegh). You can imagine my delight when I stumbled across this beautiful number. I think it adds a festival vibe to any outfit (don't I look like so ready for coachella? Ha jokes) and it kinda makes me feel like a Haim sister which isn't a bad thing at all.

what's in our bags

for this week we're letting you a sneak peek into our, um, purses and these are some of my very essentials i have to pack when i go out

ok just identify them from the mess yourself because there clearly isn't any organisation going on heh, well here i have:

1. my trusty hot pink nike water bottle (affectionately 'bottle-bottle') that i need, always, because it's really really important to drink lots of water (for skin and body and health generally). the capacity of the bottle means that i have lots of yummy boiled water to last me a few hours outside, and the weight also reminds me to drink more to lessen my burden heh.
2. an apple that i try to throw in my bag before leaving the house so i'll have a healthy snack to munch on later in the day. i get hungry easy and i really like apples, it's also just enough to satiate me and keep me happy.
3. sunnies because squinting is not sexy, and neither is getting cataracts.
4. apple-cinammon mints from fisherman's friend. my mints are my cigarettes. i need my mints.
5. wallet you saw in the last post! one of the zippers is still trippy, but whatever, it was 70% off. :D :D
6. cute pouches for my other essentials (read on).

bag – mango; this bag is the perfect size for me, fits my bottle-bottle and a jacket, or a sketchbook and some pencils while i hold my bottle, and also allllll the rest of my "essentials".
bunny pouch – daiso; part of my birthday box from leefee, it's kinda a tradition for us to assemble boxes of useful/useless cute things for the birthday girl. i use this to store my klipsch earphones (not pictured).

7. travel-sized mascara from benefit; i picked this up on impulse to hit some promotion quota at sephora to get free gifts heh. sephora free gifts are the bomdiggity, totally worth topping up $16 for this amazing mascara that i've come to love. the only con is that the mascara wand feels a little too spiky and irritates my lashline when i brush on mascara.
8. blistex lip-balm whose cap i've lost and replaced with the one on a less-loved balm. i don't apply lip-balm diligently but it's definitely useful to carry around just in case my lips get too uncomfortably dry.
9. travel-sized edt from sephora in enigmatic, their 2013 holiday scent, smells like vanilla and a little bit of citrus to me, and i'm totally loving the holo wrapping.
10. lipstick from maybelline in 625 are you red-dy because all girls should own at least 1 red lipstick (and i have several). i bring this or a pink lipstick out for touchups and occasionally both for the bitten-lip effect.
11. pocket-bac hand sani from bath & body works that is fruit punch-flavoured because YUM.

12. strawberry pouch that i forgot where i got it  from, could be a gift or from a flea, i can't remember. somehow it was established that my gifts should all be strawberry-related (well, i do like berries very much) and i have at least 5 of its siblings lying somewhere around the house. this pouch is for all my "beauty"-related stuff hehe, (eg. hair ties, eye drops, perfume, under-eye roller, oil blotters).

Bag- H&M, Cardigan- Cotton On, Glasses- Ray-Ban, Wallet- Monki, Lip balm- EOS, Earphones- Klipsch

What I love about bag is how practical yet stylish (errrr...) it is. When I first saw it in the store I immediately knew it had to be mine (despite Candy telling me not to get it). Even after stuffing my camera and a cardigan into it along with the rest of my stuff, it still manages to remain relatively light-weight and compact, which is always a plus.

Now for what is actually in the bag. I always carry around a cardigan with me because I absolutely hate being cold and it is handy for times when I need a force field to protect myself from the world. Bringing my glasses around with me ensures that I won't be left stranded somewhere, unable to see, because my contacts came out for whatever reason (this is actually one of my biggest fears. don't laugh). My lips are perpetually dry even when the humidity in Singapore is close to 100%, so, in order to prevent them from cracking, I have to bring a lip balm around with me. This is my first ever EOS lip balm and honestly, I don't really think it's worth the hype. I keep my earphones in a Dr Martens box I got from Laneway Festival. It's a precaution I decided to take after my last earphones got run over by a car. On the box is an Arctic Monkeys sticker that Candy gave me and I laaaaaaaarve it :)
